Program Notes

Created by the Original Artists of Making Treaty 7 and Quest Theatre A co-production between the Making Treaty 7 Cultural Society and Quest Theatre

This re-imagined and age appropriate version of Making Treaty 7 is for young audiences aged 8-12.

Two girls, one Indigenous and the other non-indigenous, notice their differences and wonder if they can be friends. A Trickster arrives and pulls the ancestral history of Southern Alberta out of his bundle in order to show the girls why it is impossible for them to be friends. Despite the girls understanding and reflection of the Trickster’s story, they chose to pursue a path of friendship.

We Are All Treaty People provides knowledge, historical information and a wealth of discoveries delivered by Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists through music, poetry and creative staging, that provide a context for young people to reflect on current and future relationships between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous people everywhere. The intent of the play is to promote and inspire positive relationships across cultures and generations.GRADE RECOMMENDATION: Gr 4-6+

RUNNING TIME: approx. 1 hour (50 minute show plus 10 minute Q&A)
